What does a psychiatrist do?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and treats mental health conditions. They can conduct evaluations, prescribe medication, and provide or coordinate other treatments such as therapy.

What’s the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication. Psychologists typically hold doctoral degrees in psychology and provide therapy and testing. Many people benefit from seeing both.

When should I see a psychiatrist?

Consider an appointment if symptoms last more than a couple of weeks, interfere with work, school, or relationships, or if you're wondering whether medication might help.

What happens at my first appointment?

You'll talk with your provider about your symptoms, history, and goals. You'll leave with recommendations and next steps.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, secure video visits for eligible patients located in Texas.

Is treatment confidential?

Yes. We follow HIPAA and Texas law. There are limited legal exceptions, such as imminent risk of harm, which we'll explain at your first visit.

What if I’m in crisis?

Call or text 988 or call 911. We are not an emergency service.
